KNUST, 24-Hour Economy Authority Forge Strategic Partnership
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is set to forge a strategic partnership with the 24-Hour Economy Authority to support the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
In line with this objective, a five-member delegation from the 24-Hour Economy Authority visited KNUST to continue discussions on potential areas of collaboration and technical support.
During the visit, the coordinator of the 24-Hour Economy Authority, Mr. Kyeretwie Opoku, highlighted the critical role of academia in ensuring the success of the program.
“All of the programs we’ve discussed begin with independent thinking, generating knowledge, and understanding the environment and society in which we operate, especially the technologies we employ. For a program like ours to survive and thrive, it must maintain strong connections with the people in society who create knowledge and drive innovation,” he said.
The 24-hour economy is a government-led initiative designed to keep the country’s economic activities active around the clock, beyond the traditional 9-to-5 framework. Its goals are to boost productivity, create jobs, and stimulate growth across multiple sectors.
The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, emphasized the University’s commitment to ensuring the program benefits all Ghanaians.
“We are glad that you have come to KNUST to forge this partnership. While this initiative is the brainchild of the President, its outcomes must ultimately benefit the people of Ghana. As a university, I want to assure you of our commitment and dedication as we work with you on this journey,” she said.
The initiative is anchored in eight strategic pillars: Build 24, Grow 24, Make 24, Connect 24, Show 24, Aspire 24, Go 24, and Fund 24, each targeting key areas of economic transformation. These pillars focus on construction and infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, supply chains, culture and tourism, human capital development, social mobility, and mobilization of financial resources, with the overall goal of making Ghana a more dynamic, innovative, and globally competitive economy.
As the technical partner of the Make 24 project, TCC-CIMET provides technical expertise, research support, and capacity-building to ensure effective implementation. The Director-General, Prof. Francis Davis, assured the delegation of the center’s active participation in coordinating the various teams.
Prof. Alexander Marful, Director of Business Development and Sustainability at TCC-CIMET, explained that the center has already begun integrating the initiative into rural community projects.
“For us at TCC-CIMET, we’ve started incorporating the program into existing projects to ensure it doesn’t only take place in big cities but also reaches rural communities. Through our projects, such as solar energy initiatives, we provide these communities with all-round energy solutions to support their work,” he said.
The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen innovative ecosystems, promote productivity, and enhance industrial growth in line with national development priorities.
The meeting was also attended by leads from the eight strategic pillars, alongside the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Finance Officer, representatives from the International Programs Office (IPO), Office of Grants and Research (OGR), Institute for Rural Development and Innovation Studies (IRDIS), and the E-Learning Centre.
